Message from Principal Walsh

Hello Birch Lane Families,

Happy 2nd Week of School!
We had a warm welcome for every student K-6th on our campus this week.  Students were excited, engaged and ready to be back.  Here are a few reminders as we start our 2nd week of school.
Our collective elementary sites are collaborating on smart watches and phone policies this year.  We would appreciate it if phones and smart watches could be in backpacks from 8:00-dismissal. We are trying to keep students focused in the classroom and we are also working to set them up for the junior high and high school expectations.
Thank you all for walking your bike as you approach the bike racks and our campus on the opposite side of the playground.  Walking your bike to the bike racks allows walkers a safe path and students on the playground a safe area to play.
Remember that the white zone in front of the school is for drop off and pick up only.  Please do not park your car in front of the school on the white line.  This makes it hard for all folks to drop off and pick up and creates a safety hazard for our young bikers.
If you enjoy coming to campus to pick up your child, please gather and chat with other folks in our community at the picnic tables at the front of the school, or at the picnic tables by the bike racks.  You are also welcome to stand and wait in the shaded areas outside on the blacktop.  If we could keep the quads a parent free zone until 3:05pm this will make it much easier for me to get all students safely off campus and will allow our intermediate teachers a quiet environment to teach.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
Music Assembly for 5th and 6th graders at 1:15pm on Tuesday 8/30 (encourage your student to play an instrument)
PTA Meeting Wed. 8/31 at 6pm in the new MPR.  I am looking forward to seeing many of you!
Picture Day Fri. 9/2 all day!
Thank you so much for all of your support and the great start to the year!  Shout out to Ms. Palow and Almeida for summing up exactly how I feel about the new year!  The Eagle Way is the only way to a great year!
