Hello My Name Is...

 Amy George

I thank my lucky stars every day that I get to teach at a wonderful school like Birch Lane, where I have been since 2001. I love my classroom that looks out onto the beautiful trees in the Arboretum! One of my favorite things about teaching 6th grade is that each year my students get to spend a week learning about the outdoors at Sly Park Environmental Education Center. Nature, social justice, and social-emotional learning are some of the themes that we focus on in my classroom.

I live with a family of artists (my husband, Kyle Monhollen, teaches Art at Davis High) and our summers are filled with camping all over northern CA. At any given moment of the year you might find that I’ve escaped to Yosemite, my home-away-from-home. In my spare time, I cook vegetarian meals, birdwatch, take photos of nature, create art, spend time with friends, coach running classes with Fleet Feet Davis, volunteer with the Davis Live Music Collective, make and sell mustard, and all around enjoy the gifts life gives us.
